I am not sure who this analysts is but he is may not on the right planet.

Xbox360 was first to the market. And it took advantage of that. But a rushed product have proven to be fatal. Think of the RROD issue and the lack of the built in HD-DVD drive and other cool features (WiFi, HDMI (initial launch boxes), memory card readers). If the next xbox console is not future proof, it does not stand a chance. In order for the original xbox adopters to 'keep up with the jones' they have to pay alot of money for upgrades and add ons. If MS does release before the rest of the competition, it better have done it's research and proper testing becasue all it's going to be is short lived advantage like the current console.

Wow, was this done by an industry analyst or a fanboy? Sure sounds like a fanboy.

I remember reading that and not knowing to laugh or yell... the ignorence presented in that article was without bounds. he goes so far as to call the 360 'Well Built', a fact you should have mentioned. i doubt Bill Gates can say the launch 360s were well built with a straigh face.

rushed to marked doesent begin to describe the 360.

I keep hearing about the PS3 being future proof, but the 360 is just has future proof, after all, you can already add:

HDMI
1080P
HD DVD
WiFI

and if needed, they can add Blue Ray or what ever else comes along.

to themave:

-the reason people call the PS3 future proof, and not the 360, is that all of the features you named are -built in- to the system and can be enjoyed at no extra cost to consumers. That is the key to being future proof.

The fact that the 360 uses standard DVDs for its games makes it very much un-future-proof, so unless microsoft puts an HD formated disk player in the system and makes that the standard for its games, they will fall behind in both size and graphical quality, or else become more expensive when developers are forced to put games on multiple disks. And since Blu-Ray has all but taken over the market with the recent Warner Bro's commitment, HD-DVD is sure to die unless microsoft decides to use it for games.

I am no analyst, and I don't work in the industry, so don't take my thoughts with more than a grain of salt... but I believe sony will slowly pass up microsoft in the gaming industry while nintendo continues to dominate and grow the industry with more and more fun and ingenious innovations.

Inevitable PS3 takeoverJan 17th, 2008 - 16:54:38

Somebody is not reporting facts here lol. The 360 has been the least reliable system this generation and by a long shot at that. The only system on the planet right now that is future proof is the PS3, especially now that Blu-Ray seems to have triumphed as the next Hi-Def standard format. In fact, because of that, look for sales of PS3 to increase even faster in the next year. PS3 is going to have a 10 year life cycle for sure. It looks like the 360 is doing fine now, but in 2 years they are really going to have to scramble to keep the 360 viable. It is irresponsible to suggest to a customer that this machine can keep on going till 2015 when you aren't even assured the 360 you bought wont get a (Red Ring of Death) the first year you use it.

Having most of the consoles through the years and playing all of them. I can say the article is reaching in it's opinions. Tho 360 did rush it's product to market, and have many problems wit it. Then PS3 then had the time to correct the flaws that MS had in their unit.

I feel that the writer is correct, that there will be a high end ultimate unit from MS to come out with all the future proof(if there is such a thing) items included. As stated the 360 will live on as a way to play older games and connect cheaply with xbox live system.

JMO but watch and see MS will not go down without a fight.

This article made serveral mistakes, including the one about original Xbox being a 5-year console. It only lasted 4 years before Xbox 360 was rolled out.

The 3rd-gen Xbox, Xbox 720 or whatever, is most likely going to come out 6 to 7 years after Xbox 360 launched.

2005 (Xbox 360) ====> 2011-2012 (Next Xbox).
