Although it’s undoubtedly good news for Wii gamers that Capcom’s outrageously under appreciated Okami is coming to Nintendo’s hugely popular console, it would appear that eager fans in Europe still have quite some time to wait before they’ll be able to enjoy one of the most criminally ignored artistic masterpieces of the last few years.
Okami won't arrive on the Wii in PAL regions until the summer? Credit: Capcom.
Eurogamer reports that "a man on the inside" has revealed Clover Studio’s spectacular action/RPG will not be appearing in PAL regions until some time in the summer. By direct comparison, lucky Wii gamers in the US will be able to snatch the game from retail shelves as early as March 25.
If true, this supposedly reliable insider information goes against Capcom Europe’s initial release projection for the region, which would place Okami in European stores before the close of spring.
In Okami, players assume the role of mystical ‘God in wolf form’ Amaterasu as he attempts to rid the world of an all-consuming darkness threatening to suck it dry of both colour and life.
While bolstered by stunning gameplay, fantastic characters, and truly outstanding Japanese watercolour art design, Okami’s crowning glory on the PlayStation 2 was its artistic brush stroke battle/environment integration, which makes it absolutely perfect for the Wii and its motion-sensing controllers.
If Okami arrives on the Wii bearing the same weight of beauty exuded by the PlayStation 2 original (and there’s no reason why it won’t given the extreme potential of Nintendo’s console) then expect Okami to emerge from its forced cult status and be rightly lauded as the gaming classic that it so clearly is.
Currently, God of War: Chains of Olympus developer Ready at Dawn is helming Okami’s shift to the Nintendo Wii.
