When it comes to associating potential sports adaptations with the Nintendo Wii and its motion-sensing innovation, you’d be forgiven for immediately thinking of the more obvious pastimes such as baseball, bowling, boxing, soccer, and American football – all of which are already available in some capacity on Nintendo’s little box of wonder.

But what about other, more obscure, more distinctly European sporting distractions such as amateur ferret hurling, underground midget wrestling, and professional darts. Okay, the first two suggestions don’t exist – at least we don’t think they do – but darts certainly does and is perhaps the perfect sport to incorporate the Wii Remote’s control capabilities.
Moreover, the fine folk at Oxygen Games are bringing this long-serving bastion of British pub culture to the Nintendo Wii and, unlike the sport’s real ‘athletes,’ eager gamers won’t even need to invest in gaudy forearm tattoos and hulking great beer guts in order to participate.
PDC World Championship Darts 2008 for the PlayStation 2 and PC hits retail outlets tomorrow (January 25), but the true test of the game’s interactive potential will arrive on February 08 when the Wii version is released.
Boasting even more PDC Champions than ever before, PDC Darts 2008 will feature a full line-up of electrifying (not literally) tournaments, explains Oxygen, along with "exceptional graphic enhancements" and extra gameplay modes to test player skill to the maximum.
And, to help whet any appetites not attuned to the wonders of stepping up to the oche and banging that 501 out with a legendary nine-dart finish, PDC World Championship Darts 2008 is already blazing a fairly healthy review trail.
Specifically, GamesTM offers that: "Oxygen Games’ latest dart simulation is perfect for Wii," while respected print magazine GamesMaster enthuses that the game is "nearly as much as a test of skill as the real thing." Similarly, British tabloid newspaper The Daily Star thinks that PDC World Championship Darts 2008 throws "a definite bulls’ eye for the Wii," while men’s magazine Nuts has awarded it "Game of the Week" status.
So, bring the spectacle and excitement of the nation’s best-loved pub sport to your home with PDC World Championship Darts 2008 . You just know it’s going to be one of those games that makes you say "just one more go, then I’ll turn it off."
Look out for M&C Gaming’s review, which will be hitting double top very soon.
