Never ones to shy away from inciting fanboy passions, online videogame media hub GameTrailers.com has this week followed the likes of PDF magazine D+PAD in unveiling its software picks for 2008.

Unlike D+PAD’s selection of the top 25 games to look out for in 2008, GameTrailers names only its top 10 choices, although the placement of Rockstar Games’ hugely anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV at number seven is sure to set the site’s comments section ablaze.
Having apparently poured over hundreds of upcoming releases, the GT editorial department has singled out its “superlative ten” based upon time spent with the games during media gatherings -- and also “the reputations of a given series.” Again, that last statement might upset some, not least because any series, regardless of reputation, is only as good as its last game.
“We thought it would be difficult to top 2007, but after examining all of 2008's upcoming releases, we were surprised to find that this year could end up having just as strong a line-up of games as last year,” commented Shane Satterfield, Editor in Chief of GameTrailers. “With all three consoles hitting their stride, the quality and quantity of software will be incredible, and narrowing down the choices to just ten was not an easy task.”
Yet a task they managed nevertheless, and while we could simply list GT’s most anticipated games of 2008, it’s always better to let the source speak for its self.

Oh, and fanboys eager to know how their favoured console platform performed in the list -- where exclusivity is concerned -- should know that the Nintendo Wii comes out with just one (Super Smash Bros. Brawl), while the Xbox 360 also takes one (Ninja Gaiden II), and the PS3 nails three (LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Final Fantasy XIII). Watch the clip below to find out where they placed.

This list was made before the announcement of Gears of War 2 i presume, coz that would be no.1 in my list, followed by GTA4.
