If the desire to welcome Rock Band and its contributing gameplay instruments into your home is being suppressed by the existing bundle’s rather hefty price tag, then this piece of pocket-friendly news is just what you’ve been holding our for.
Individual Rock Band peripherals confirmed for retail release. Harmonix.
Rock Band developer Harmonix and publisher Electronic Arts have today announced that mosh-loving consumers will be able to purchase standalone instrument peripherals for the game from February 12.
Specifically, if you want to pick up a copy of Rock Band for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PS2, then a further $79,99 USD will secure the official Drum Kit from Feb 12, while $59,99 USD will see you bestowed with the Wireless Fender Stratocaster Guitar peripheral from April 01.
Of course, if your piggy bank’s bulging belly can go the whole hog (hohoho) then the Rock Band Special Edition Bundle offers up the Drum Kit, real drum sticks, the Stratocaster Guitar, a compatible microphone, and the videogame software.
"The release of standalone instruments allows Rock Band musicians to enjoy the full Rock Band experience, including drum, microphone and guitar head-to-head modes, creating a whole new level of competitive fun," trumpeted Alex Rigopulos, CEO and co-founder of Harmonix . "We’re also delivering a stand-alone wireless guitar solution for all versions of Rock Band as well as providing the opportunity for consumers to build their band one instrument at a time."
While allowing consumers to add instruments as and when they choose, the addition of standalone Rock Band peripherals also means that players can double up on instruments too, which expands the musical experience even further.
By having more than one of any instrument, gamers will be able to compete in new game modes such as Microphone vs. Microphone, Drum vs. Drum, and Guitar vs. Guitar. These new gameplay approaches will also apply to modes such as ‘Score Duel’ and ‘Tug-O-War.’ All of the ‘VS.’ modes compatible with multiple instruments can be played either locally or online and work with ALL downloadable Rock Band song tracks.
