Specifically, an article posted this week by the Associated Press outlines how a Bucks County man in Pennsylvania choked an 8-week-old beagle puppy after he found it chewing on cables connected to his videogame console.
Jonathon Allison of Bristol showed considerable remorse after pleading guilty to the charge of cruelty-to-animals, offering that he had loved his young dog and wished now that he could take his actions back.
The puppy, which was not killed during Allison’s cruel attack, was later put to sleep by a veterinarian after its breathing degenerated due to bruising around the neck and a build up of fluid in its lungs.
In his defence, Allison also described how he was suffering through stress after injuring his back and subsequently losing his job. The report also states that Allison had attempted to take his own life and was now on medication.
In sentencing, Judge Jeffrey Finley conceding that Allison had shown considerable regret for choking the puppy, but had still performed a cruel act. Allison has been ordered to continue a course of therapy and also complete 100 hours of community service.
