If you want a PS3, but can’t afford the Premium $599 60GB model with all the trimmings, you’ve probably been saving your pennies for the Basic 20GB model, which Sony has been selling for $100 less.
Don't keep your hopes up for a 20GB PS3, they're disappearing as you read this.
Well, at least until now.
As of today, the 20GB PS3 is disappearing from US retailers inventory lists and websites, starting with Sony Style, the official online Sony store in the US.
The cheaper Basic model has been removed today retailers including Amazon.com, Best Buy, GameStop, EB Games, and Circuit City, all of which are no longer listing the 20GB model on their web sites.
Other then the smaller hard drive (the Basic has 20GB HDD, the Premium has 60GB HDD) the only other difference between the two is lack of Wi-Fi connectivity and multiple flash memory card readers. Oh and the Basic model doesn’t have the fancy chrome trimming.
All of this is to say that we’re led to wonder if the 20GB model will ever make it to Europe, Australia, and other territories where currently only the 60GB version is available. The budget version was originally expected to arrive sometime in the this summer, although no date was ever set.
