While chatting with the gaming folk over at MTV MultiplayerBlog about various epic subjects, Cliff ‘Gears of War’ Bleszinski has offered that renowned studio Epic Games is unlikely to widen its developmental focus to the PC platform any time soon as PC gaming “is just in disarray.”

“What's driving the PC right now is Sims-type games and WoW [World of Warcraft] and a lot of stuff that's in a Web-based interface,” said Bleszinski about the current state of PC gaming. “You just click on it and play it. That's the direction PC is evolving into.”
Outlining that the PC platform is more closely aligned with “the secondary part” of what Epic is planning as a videogame studio, Bleszinski conceded that while PC gaming remains an important element, “right now making AAA games on consoles is where we’re at.”

With console titles open to a gaming demographic spread across multiple formats, both home based and handheld, Bleszinski also pointed to the monetary benefits associated with developing away from the PC.
“I think people would rather make a game that sells 4.5 million copies than a million,” he said, before then revealing that third-person shooter Gears of War has now sold some 4.5 million units as an exclusive Xbox 360 console title.
In terms of Gears of War 2, Bleszinski surprised no one by remaining tight lipped, although he did tease the embers of intrigue somewhat by commenting that Epic Games is keeping its creativity firmly rooted in the realms of development that its established audience is accustomed to.
Yep, well, 4.5 million Xbox 360 sales of Gears of War will do that to a studio.
