It may have lost its PlayStation 3 exclusivity to the call of the Xbox 360, putting the noses of many Sony fans out of joint in the process, but Capcom’s action title ‘Devil May Cry 4’ looks set to deliver bags of death-dealing hacking and slashing for those eager gamers residing in both hardware camps.

And, what’s more, Japanese developer and publisher Capcom has stepped forth today to inform fans that a free playable downloadable game demo will hit the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live in early 2008.
Although a fixed date has not been offered, longstanding followers of the Devil May Cry series will still be thrilled to know that Capcom is preparing a gameplay taster prior to the official release of the game.
Capcom reveals that the demo will introduce players to Devil May Cry 4’s newest protagonist, Nero, and "awesome power of his Devil Bringer." Furthermore, the demo will deliver a smattering of samples from the final game designed to showcase the variety of locations on offer as well as Nero’s unique abilities.
Environment samples on offer will include the coastal city of Fortuna and its surroundings, such as the port and its nearby snow-capped mountain ranges.
Via the power of the Devil Bringer, players will able to slam creatures to the ground, cover great distances in a single bound (a la Incredible Hulk), and even grab enemies from the air or while lying prone before delivering devastating attack combos.
Combined with the ‘Exceed’ system, which enables Nero to rev the Devil Bringer as though it had an impact throttle, player will be tasked to grasp Nero’s skills before rounding out the demo pitted against "the mighty Berial."
Capcom is lauding Devil May Cry as capable of running at a constant 60 frames per second and a resolution of 720p when played through a high-definition monitor.
Devil May Cry 4 will be released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and has an ESRB rating of ‘M for Mature.’
