Wow. That is plainly weird. You'd think at least he would still consider the massive PS2 audience (look at Guitar Hero 2 sales earlier this year). Seems quite short sighted, or maybe a little too N friendly I think. Like the author said, if you want a broad base of support you sell to a number of platforms?
Actually, if he was Nintendo friendly to the max, he would've released it for the Wii. I mean, that's the system that is actually making waves with the non-gamers and casual crowd (plus kicking the PS3's and 360 butt since it was released). The DS did it first, but the Wii is the home console of choice for the present generation of casuals.
And I dunno, people talk about casuals and non-gamers as if this is a new thing. When in reality, it happened before when Sony decided to branch out to new audiences with their first Playstation console. With games like Tomb Raider that attracted pre-teens and teens merely due to Lara Croft's 'attributes'. Or games like Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid, games that attracted people dueto their coolness. They wanted to be part of the cool crowd. Final Fantasy attracted females to the user base. Since then, females are a big chunk of the people who play Final Fantasy games.
So thanks to Sony catering to casuals and people who never before considered playing videogames, the industry grew to a size that rivaled that of Hollywood.
With the Wii, it's happening again. Albeit there are a lot more people attracted to the Wii than they were to the PS1 when that console first came out. The positive thing is that the industry is growing fast. The negative part is that many analysts and developers either don't know what to do or are simply scared by the changing face of gamedom.
it might go against what he stated, but you guys are forgetting that money is involved and making cross platform games requires more time.
